Mission Woman Sentenced for Burglary
A 19-year-old woman from Mission, South Dakota, has been sentenced to two months in prison for her role in a string of burglaries on the Rosebud Reservation.
Victoria Brown was one of three individuals who broke into three homes on January 16, 2013, making off with property that didn’t belong to them. The investigation was conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tim Maher.
Brown was indicted by a federal grand jury in February 2013 and pleaded guilty to Count I of the Indictment on June 13, 2013. She was sentenced to two months of imprisonment, four months of home confinement, and 18 months of supervised release. Brown was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund and $3,341.99 in restitution to the three burglary victims.
The conviction marks the latest in a series of burglaries on the Rosebud Reservation. Two other co-defendants have also been convicted and sentenced on burglary charges.
Brown was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following her sentencing. The investigation into the burglaries is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
