New Orleans – A Mississippi couple, Kimberly Homrighausen, 42, and Richard Homrighausen, 36, have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to pay and receive kickbacks in a $1.7 million TRICARE fraud scheme.
Their operation, which bilked the federally funded health care program for military personnel out of millions, involved paying kickbacks to TRICARE beneficiaries, compelling them to obtain compounded medications. The total cost to TRICARE? An estimated $9 million.
Kimberly and Richard Homrighausen, both residents of Mississippi, are set to be sentenced on August 8, 2019, facing up to five years in prison for their roles in the scheme.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Peter G. Strasser commended the collaborative efforts of the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, Department of Homeland Security – Homeland Security Investigations, Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Postal Service – Office of Inspector General, and Department of Veterans Affairs – Office of Inspector General in bringing this case to justice.
Assistant United States Attorney Chandra Menon is leading the prosecution against the Homrighausens. This case underscores the ongoing efforts by federal agencies to crack down on health care fraud that victimizes hardworking Americans and military families alike.
