Local Man Sentenced for Robbery and Assault in Indian Country
MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Mitchell Dale Thompson, a 26-year-old resident of Westville, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 41 months in prison for one count of Robbery in Indian Country and 51 months in prison for one count of Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in Indian Country. The sentences will run concurrently.
The charges arose from investigations by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Adair County Sheriff’s Office. On April 17, 2023, Thompson pleaded guilty to the charges.
According to investigators, on July 19, 2021, Thompson demanded car keys from the victim at gunpoint, then drove off in the victim’s car. In a separate incident, on April 8, 2022, Thompson beat a fellow inmate at the Adair County Detention Center, causing multiple skull fractures.
The crimes occurred in Adair County, within the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation Reservation, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The Honorable Ronald A. White, Chief Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearing.
Assistant United States Attorney Kevin Gross represented the United States. Thompson will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a non-paroleable sentence of incarceration.
Thompson, a Westville resident, was sentenced for multiple crimes committed in Adair County, Oklahoma. His sentence will include 41 months for robbery and 51 months for assault, to be served concurrently.
The investigation into Thompson’s crimes was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Adair County Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin Gross.
