Michigan Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Stalking Ex-Wife and Possessing Firearms

A Muskegon man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for stalking his ex-wife and possessing firearms while being a felon.

Mitchell Pierce, 45, pleaded guilty to stalking and being a felon in possession of firearms in U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on August 2021. He was sentenced to 180 months in the Bureau of Prisons by U.S. District Court Judge Robert J. Jonker on [no specific date mentioned, but presumably after the guilty plea in August 2021]. Pierce will also serve three years of supervised release after his prison term.

U.S. Attorney Mark Totten vowed to fight gender-based violence, stating that it ‘harms families, perpetuates social inequities, and leaves victims fearful and feeling like they have nowhere to turn.’

Pierce’s ex-wife had been placed on a no-contact order following a reported assault in August 2021. However, Pierce disregarded the order and began threatening his ex-wife through repeated calls, texts, and emails, including messages that read ‘Your dead b—-‘ and ‘so r your kids.’

On May 2, 2022, his ex-wife noticed a Jeep following her and struck Pierce with her minivan, fleeing the scene. Police found a loaded pistol, two rifles, seven magazines, numerous rounds of ammunition, and a bullet-proof vest in Pierce’s rented Jeep.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasizes its commitment to protecting victims and holding perpetrators accountable, especially those who illegally possess firearms.
