Zachery Moore, Illegal Firearm Possession, California 2023

RAILING CITY, SD – In a stunning turn of events, Zachery Moore, a 29-year-old man from Modesto, California, has been sentenced to serve four years in federal prison for illegal firearm possession and drug trafficking. The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell on January 30, 2023.

Moore, who has a prior felony conviction that bars him from owning firearms, pleaded guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person in September 2022. He was also charged with possession of heroin and drug distribution materials following his encounter with law enforcement in Rapid City, South Dakota, in July 2021.

The stolen Kimber Micro 9, 9mm semi-automatic pistol, was recovered after Moore’s interaction with authorities. The case is a direct hit within the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, which aims to reduce gun violence and violent crime by fostering community trust and strategic enforcement priorities.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Patterson prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in collaboration with the Rapid City Police Department. Moore was promptly remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following his conviction.

This sentencing is a testament to the relentless efforts of law enforcement to keep our neighborhoods safe. The PSN program has been instrumental in addressing violent crime reduction strategies, as highlighted by its core principles that include supporting community-based organizations and setting focused enforcement priorities.

With Moore’s sentence now final, justice has been served for those affected by his illegal activities.
