Man Charged with Sexual Abuse in Gateway Arch National Park
A man from Fairview Heights, Illinois has been accused of committing a heinous crime in Gateway Arch National Park. Monte Derrell Boatman, 35, has been indicted on one count of sexual abuse.
According to the indictment, Boatman committed a forcible assault on park grounds on December 6, 2023, and placed the victim in fear of death, serious bodily injury, or kidnapping.
The sexual abuse charge is punishable by up to life in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both prison and a fine. Boatman is currently in custody.
The case was investigated by the National Park Service and the St. Louis Metropolitan police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jillian Anderson is prosecuting the case.
It’s worth noting that charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations and do not constitute proof of guilt. Every defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty.
As the investigation unfolds, more information will be made available. For now, the community is left to grapple with the severity of this crime and the potential consequences for the accused.
The city of St. Louis is still reeling from the news, and the National Park Service is working to ensure that the park remains a safe and secure destination for visitors.
The outcome of this case will be closely watched by the community, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
