Montebello Man Sentenced to Life for Fentanyl Distribution that Led to Overdose Death at Drug Clinic

LOS ANGELES – A federal jury has sentenced Juan Carlos Gutierrez, 33, a.k.a. “Johnny G,” to life imprisonment after finding him guilty of distributing fentanyl that led to a fatal overdose at a Long Beach drug treatment facility in late 2021.

Gutierrez was convicted on one count of distribution of fentanyl resulting in death and serious bodily injury, a felony with a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years and a maximum of life imprisonment.

According to the evidence presented over an eight-day trial, Gutierrez sold fentanyl to Jayleen Feusier, 36, of South Gate, on December 9, 2021. Feusier then passed it onto a 34-year-old victim at the Long Beach facility for $60.

Feusier delivered the package via Uber, with the drug hidden in a box. The victim was found dead six hours later with drug paraphernalia nearby.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the death was due to fentanyl overdose. Gutierrez is set for sentencing on October 15th, already in federal custody since May 2023.

Feusier, who also pleaded guilty to distribution of fentanyl, faces up to 20 years in prison at her upcoming hearing. Both were investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and Long Beach Police Department, with Assistant United States Attorneys Jeremy K. Beecher and Danbee C. Kim leading the prosecution.
