In a brazen display of thievery, Montray Lorenzo Cato, 29, of Fort Worth, Texas, robbed two branches of the First Convenience Bank in the summer of 2012.
On June 13, 2012, Cato robbed the First Convenience Bank located inside of a Kroger Store at 6650 North Beach Street, while on July 28, 2012, he committed the second robbery at the First Convenience Bank located inside of a Walmart at 6756 West Vickery. In both incidents, the bank robber wore similar clothing and held a cell phone to his ear during the robbery.
The case took a turn when employees at a First Convenience Bank, located inside of a Kroger Store at 9114 Camp Bowie Boulevard West, recognized Cato loitering in the store and notified the Fort Worth Police Department on August 29, 2012.
Upon being escorted outside, officers discovered that Cato had a realistic plastic replica of a firearm in his waistband and no money, credit cards or debit cards on his person, which contradicted his claim that he was shopping at the Kroger.
Montray Lorenzo Cato was arrested and later sentenced to 120 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge John McBryde following his conviction at trial in November 2012 on two counts of bank robbery, announced U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldaña of the Northern District of Texas.
The court also ordered Cato to pay $7,747 in restitution. The case was investigated by the Fort Worth Police Department and the FBI, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Matthew Gulde and Megan Fahey prosecuting.
Cato’s actions not only put the lives of innocent civilians at risk but also showcased a blatant disregard for the law. As we continue to navigate the complexities of crime in our society, it is essential to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions and bring justice to the victims.
