PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Lawrence M. Winter, 45, a former Allegheny County Jail guard, has been handed a 72-month prison sentence for possessing child pornography. The sentence, imposed by United States District Judge Terrence F. McVerry, also includes 15 years of supervised release.
Winter was caught in unlawful possession of thousands of images and hundreds of videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children, with many victims being under the age of 12. Some of the victims were shown in bound positions. Winter agreed to make a $2,000 restitution payment to one of the identified victims, known as ‘Vicky’, before his sentencing.
United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced the sentence, praising the Pennsylvania State Police and the Moon Township Police Department for their role in the investigation that led to Winter’s conviction.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. Assistant United States Attorney Carolyn J. Bloch prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
