MOULTRIE, GA – Timothy McNeal, the 31-year-old Moultrie drug kingpin, has been handed a decade-plus sentence by Senior U.S. District Judge Hugh Lawson for his role in a major drug trafficking operation.
On March 5, 2013, after a two-day trial, a jury convicted McNeal of Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine Base (‘crack’ cocaine), Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The court records revealed that McNeal was classified as both a Career Offender under the United States Sentencing Guidelines and an Armed Career Criminal under federal law.
The case broke when agents discovered through complaints and interviews that McNeal was selling illegal drugs from his residence. A search warrant executed at the site yielded quantities of crack cocaine and marijuana, packaged for distribution. A Hi-Point 9mm pistol and ammunition were also found, solidifying McNeal’s status as an Armed Career Criminal.
Judge Lawson sentenced McNeal to 262 months imprisonment to be served consecutively to an existing Georgia state sentence on a separate crime, followed by six years of supervised release. “The federal sentencing guidelines have special provisions to substantially increase sentences for repeat offenders such as Timothy McNeal,” said U.S. Attorney Michael Moore.
This sentence, without parole, will not begin until McNeal has served the full remaining time on his current state sentence. According to Moore, it is extremely unlikely that McNeal will ever again have the opportunity to sell illegal drugs in this community or anywhere else.
The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office, and the Colquitt County Drug Enforcement Team.
