CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – Five alleged members of the notorious MS-13 gang are facing federal murder charges in connection with a pair of gruesome killings on Long Island. An indictment unsealed today details the gang’s alleged involvement in the October 28, 2023, murder of Yoneli Ramos-Moreno at Sunken Meadow Bluff in Kings Park, New York, and the March 3, 2025, murder of Carlos Lopez-Lopez in Blue Point, New York. The indictment also lays out charges of conspiracy to commit murder and narcotics trafficking.
The defendants are identified as David Orellana-Aleman, also known as “Tenebroso”; Noel Portillo-Romero, also known as “Discreto”; Cruz Eduardo Sanchez-Gutierrez, also known as “Escriper,” “Poison,” and “Bellaco”; Ernesto Torres-Hernandez, also known as “Perverso”; and Omar Zavala-Ventura, also known as “Snyder,” “Little Ejecutor,” “Pequeno Ejecutor,” and “Liro.” Orellana-Aleman is reportedly a leader within the Hollywood Locos Salvatruchas (Hollywood) clique of MS-13, while Portillo-Romero and Torres-Hernandez are members of the Carlington Locos Salvatruchas (Carlington) clique. Sanchez-Gutierrez and Zavala-Ventura are also affiliated with the Hollywood clique.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, the charges detail a level of brutality that defies easy description. “The legal terms in the Indictment cannot adequately describe the sheer savagery with which the defendants, in service to the MS-13 gang, beat, strangled, and murdered Ramos-Moreno, and plotted to murder Lopez-Lopez,” stated United States Attorney Joseph Nocella, Jr. He emphasized the office’s unwavering commitment to dismantling MS-13’s presence on Long Island.
Three of the defendants – Portillo-Romero, Sanchez-Gutierrez, and Torres-Hernandez – were arrested yesterday and are scheduled to be arraigned before United States District Judge Gary R. Brown. Orellana-Aleman is currently in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Zavala-Ventura is already in federal custody, with arraignment dates to be determined. The investigation, a multi-agency effort, involved Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Suffolk County Police Department (SCPD), the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, and the New York State Police (NYSP).
“These violent gang members, allegedly involved in murder and poisoning our communities through the sale of drugs, pose a serious threat to our communities that we will not tolerate,” said Michael Alfonso, Acting Special Agent in Charge of HSI New York. He described the defendants as representing “the ‘worst of the worst’ among criminal aliens.” SCPD Commissioner Kevin Catalina echoed this sentiment, stating that the gang’s violence is “barbaric” and vowed continued collaboration with law enforcement partners to end MS-13’s “reign of terror.”
The indictment is the latest in a string of efforts to cripple MS-13’s operations on Long Island. Authorities are urging anyone with information about MS-13 activity to come forward. The U.S. Attorney’s Office extended gratitude to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, the New York City Police Department, the Glen Cove Police Department, and U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations for their assistance in the case. The full indictment details the specific racketeering activities and evidence linking the defendants to the horrific crimes.
