MS-13 Member Sentenced to 2 Life Terms for Murder, Racketeering

Raul Ernesto Landaverde-Giron, a 28-year-old MS-13 member from Silver Spring, Maryland, was sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for his role in a federal racketeering conspiracy.

Landaverde-Giron, also known as ‘Humilde’ and ‘Decente,’ was convicted of conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise, murder in aid of racketeering, conspiracy to commit murder in aid of racketeering, and using a firearm during a crime of violence.

According to the evidence presented at his trial, Landaverde-Giron was a member of the MS-13 Normandie Locos Salvatrucha Clique, one of the largest street gangs in the United States. The gang operates throughout Prince George’s County, Montgomery County, and Frederick County, Maryland.

Landaverde-Giron was involved in the murder of an individual in Frederick, Maryland, who had fled El Salvador to escape a ‘greenlight’ imposed by MS-13 members. The victim was lured to a wooded area and shot in the head, and then stabbed in the face and neck by Landaverde-Giron and two other clique members.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the conviction, praising the efforts of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors in bringing the MS-13 member to justice.

Landaverde-Giron pleaded guilty to reentering the United States after having been deported and was sentenced to six months in prison. He has been detained since his arrest.
