Starkville, MS (Grimy Times) – In a shocking turn of events, 23-year-old Muhammad Oda Dakhlalla of Starkville, Mississippi, has been sentenced to 96 months in prison for his role in conspiring to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), a designated foreign terrorist organization.
According to court documents, Dakhlalla pleaded guilty on March 13 to conspiring with 20-year-old Jaelyn Delshaun Young, also of Starkville, to provide material support to ISIL. Young, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison on August 11, pleaded guilty to the same charge on March 30.
The investigation, led by the FBI’s Jackson Division Joint Terrorism Task Force and the Washington Field Office, uncovered a deep-seated conspiracy to support a foreign terrorist organization. Dakhlalla’s sentence marks a significant blow to those who seek to provide material support to such groups.
Assistant Attorney General for National Security John P. Carlin, U.S. Attorney Felicia C. Adams of the Northern District of Mississippi, and Special Agent in Charge Donald Alway of the FBI’s Jackson, Mississippi, Division made the announcement.
Dakhlalla will serve a 15-year term of supervised release following his prison sentence. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Clay Joyner and Bob Norman of the Northern District of Mississippi and Trial Attorney Rebecca Magnone of the National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section.
The harsh sentence serves as a warning to those who would seek to support terrorist organizations. Dakhlalla’s conviction and sentencing are a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors to bring those who engage in such activities to justice.
In related news, Young, Dakhlalla’s co-conspirator, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on August 11, 2023, for her role in the conspiracy.
