The dark reality of the internet unfolded in Muscatine, Iowa, as Paul Kyle Quigley, a 41-year-old registered sex offender, was sentenced to 210 months in federal prison for attempting to entice a minor on Facebook.
According to public court documents, Quigley engaged in a Facebook conversation with an undercover officer posing as a 15-year-old female in December 2022. Despite being informed of the minor’s age, Quigley continued to request graphic sex acts and even formulated a plan to meet and flee the state with the victim.
Quigley’s reckless actions were foiled when he was arrested in Burlington on February 22, 2023, just prior to arriving at the meeting place in his semi-truck. The Iowa Department of Transportation played a crucial role in the arrest.
As part of his sentence, Quigley will be required to serve 15 years of supervised release after completing his term of imprisonment. The federal system does not offer parole.
This case is a stark reminder of the dangers lurking online and the importance of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
