Muskogee Gun Man Gets 120-Month Stretch

CRIMES R US – In a tough stance against gun violence, Derrick Dejuan Wooten, 24, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to a decade in federal prison for illegal firearm possession. The sentence, handed down by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, comes after a jury convicted Wooten on March 17, 2016.

According to court documents, Wooten was caught with a firearm on November 17, 2015, in Muskogee. His previous conviction for a crime punishable by over one year’s imprisonment made him ineligible for the right to bear arms under federal law.

Judge Ronald A. White presided over Wooten’s sentencing hearing in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The sentence, which includes 120 months of imprisonment followed by 36 months of supervised release, is nonparolable.

The case was investigated by the Muskogee Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Eastern District Violent Crimes Task Force. Wooten has been remanded into federal custody pending transportation to his designated federal facility.

Assistant United States Attorney Rob Wallace represented the United States during the proceedings, ensuring that justice was served for the violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2).

This sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who flout federal firearms laws. Wooten’s case serves as a warning to others that the possession of illegal firearms will not be tolerated in Muskogee or anywhere else across the United States.
