DALLAS, TEXAS
Two Houston men have been sentenced in federal court for their role in a multi-state opioid distribution conspiracy.
Ivery Myers, 64, and Cornelius Delshun Robinson, a/k/a ‘Tadow,’ 37, were sentenced by U.S. District Judge Sidney A. Fitzwater for their involvement in a ‘pill mill’ operation.
Myers was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison following his guilty plea to one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance in October 2015. Robinson was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison following his guilty plea to the same offense in November 2015. Both defendants have been in custody since their arrest.
According to plea documents, the duo participated in a scheme to illicitly obtain prescriptions for pain medications, such as oxycodone and hydrocodone, and then distribute those controlled substances for profit. The indictment alleged that from May 2013 through July 2014, the defendants participated in a conspiracy to distribute controlled substances in Texas and Louisiana.
The scheme involved recruiting and paying individuals to pose as patients at medical clinics, including the McAllen Medical Clinic in Dallas, to obtain prescriptions to fill at designated pharmacies. Myers and Robinson also obtained oxycodone from sources in Dallas and Houston and distributed it to customers in Texas and Louisiana.
The Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigated the case, with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, and other law enforcement agencies. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Walters prosecuted the case.
The indictment alleged that on February 24, 2014, Myers and co-conspirator Shane Barron obtained oxycodone with the intent to distribute it later. Myers presented a prescription issued to another individual at a Walmart in Brady, Texas, and obtained 120 30mg oxycodone pills.
Robinson recruited and paid individuals to pose as patients at medical clinics to obtain prescriptions for oxycodone. He paid the recruits to go to pharmacies to fill the prescriptions and also paid for clinic visits and prescriptions. Robinson then obtained the oxycodone and distributed it for profit.
Myers and Robinson were sentenced in federal court for their role in a multi-state opioid distribution conspiracy.
