Baltimore, Maryland – In a significant blow to the region’s narcotics trade, Daryell M. Rexrode, a 56-year-old resident of Pasadena, Maryland, has been sentenced to 160 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for his role in a cocaine distribution conspiracy.
Rexrode, who was caught in a sting operation in 2012, conspired with Paul Rodney Cain and others to distribute cocaine. On November 16, 2012, Rexrode was arrested in Baltimore upon arriving to accept a controlled delivery of a kilogram of cocaine that he intended to split with Cain. The search of his vehicle revealed an additional 344 grams of cocaine and more than 700 grams of methamphetamine in the trunk.
The investigation, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Anne Arundel County Police Department, revealed a complex web of cocaine distribution involving Rexrode and his co-conspirators. The defendants used encrypted communication methods to coordinate their activities, including wiretaps on two cell phones belonging to Cain.
Law enforcement intercepted numerous conversations between Rexrode and Cain, discussing the purchase and sale of cocaine. In one notable exchange, Cain informed Rexrode that he had arranged to purchase a large quantity of cocaine from an individual who was later identified as Allan Ferdock. The authorities arrested Ferdock on May 24, 2013, after witnessing him purchase a kilogram of cocaine, which he intended to re-sell to Cain.
Rexrode’s brother was also implicated in the conspiracy and was arrested on May 27, 2013, on Ferdock’s property. At the time of his arrest, Rexrode’s brother was wearing latex gloves and carrying a mallet, a knife, and a roll of duct tape.
The investigation, which was conducted by the DEA, Anne Arundel County Police Department, and the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office, resulted in the seizure of over 5 kilograms of cocaine. Rexrode’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in narcotics trafficking.
Rod J. Rosenstein, United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, commended the agencies involved in the investigation, stating, ‘The DEA, Anne Arundel County Police Department, and Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office worked tirelessly to dismantle this cocaine distribution ring.’ Assistant United States Attorneys Peter J. Martinez and Christopher J. Romano prosecuted the case as part of the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force.
