A Clearfield County resident has pleaded guilty to charges of drug trafficking after a nine-month investigation into the region’s narcotics trade.
Amy Bortot, 52, of Clearfield, PA, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine and a quantity of marijuana.
Bortot’s guilty plea marks another significant development in the ongoing investigation into the Western District of Pennsylvania’s narcotics trade, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration and a coalition of local and federal law enforcement agencies.
Bortot’s involvement in the trafficking organization was uncovered through a nine-month Title III wiretap investigation into the region’s narcotics trade, which netted 47 defendants in six related indictments.
As a United States mail carrier, Bortot used her position to receive parcels on behalf of the leader of the trafficking organization, Derek Hillebrand, that were shipped from California to the Western District of Pennsylvania.
Bortot received parcels containing approximately 4.5 kilograms of methamphetamine and 80 kilograms of marijuana, according to court documents.
The law provides for a sentence of not less than ten years to a maximum of life in prison, a fine not to exceed $10,000,000, or both. Bortot’s sentencing is scheduled for February 28, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.
