A former contractor has been sentenced in connection with the high-profile bribery case involving former New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin.
Frank Fradella, 57, of Covington, was sentenced to serve one year plus one day imprisonment, followed by one year of supervised release, for his role in the Nagin bribery case.
Fradella, who pleaded guilty in June 2012, cooperated extensively with the United States after his guilty plea and testified against Nagin during a three-week jury trial in February 2014.
In addition to his prison sentence, Fradella was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine. He was found guilty of filing a false financial report and bribing Nagin.
U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan handed down the sentence. Nagin, who was found guilty of bribery, money laundering, and tax violations, was also convicted in the case.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office praised the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Treasury, Criminal Investigations Division, and the New Orleans Inspector General’s Office in investigating the matter.
Assistant United States Attorneys Richard R. Pickens, II and Matthew M. Coman were in charge of the prosecution.
