Naiem Moore Pleads Guilty to Cocaine and Heroin Charges

Newark, NJ – In a shocking turn of events, Naiem Moore, 34, of Newark, New Jersey, has pleaded guilty to charges of cocaine and heroin possession.

According to documents filed in the case, on January 14, 2021, law enforcement recovered glassine envelopes containing heroin, jugs containing cocaine, and a Chrome Llama Max I firearm loaded with four rounds of ammunition and two controlled expansion rounds from Moore’s vehicle.

The investigation, led by the Newark Police Division under the direction of Director Fritz Fragé, revealed that Moore had used the same firearm in a shooting and attempted assault on September 28, 2020.

Moore’s guilty plea comes as part of the Newark Violent Crimes Initiative (VCI), a partnership between federal, state, county, and city agencies to combat violent crime in and around Newark.

Moore faces a maximum potential penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of $1 million for the narcotics offense. The two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition carry a maximum potential penalty of 10 years in prison, and the count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime carries a statutory mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison, which must run consecutively to any other sentence imposed.

Sentencing is scheduled for December 18, 2024. The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney DeNae Thomas of the Health Care Fraud Unit.

The case is a stark reminder of the dangers of drug trafficking and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat violent crime in our community.
