A McAllen man has admitted to attempting to send kilograms of cocaine in the mail, putting him on a collision course with federal prison time.
Narciso Dominguez III, 26, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine on [date], announced U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei.
According to authorities, Dominguez purchased shipping products such as boxes and bubble wrap and was followed to a local mail shipping establishment where he provided multiple packages to be mailed to Dallas. A search of the items revealed 19 kilograms of cocaine, packaged in the same shipping materials as he had previously purchased.
Dominguez admitted to knowing the items contained cocaine, according to court documents. The Drug Enforcement Administration conducted the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jose A. Garcia prosecuted the case.
U.S. District Judge Drew B. Tipton will impose sentencing on July 15, at which time Dominguez faces up to life in federal prison and a possible $10 million fine. He has been and will remain in custody pending that hearing.
