In a major blow to the illicit drug trade in Elmira, New York, six defendants were charged for their roles in a large-scale methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine trafficking ring. The defendants, all from Elmira, include Eric J. Barner, Ashanique Graham, Geneno Mable, Matthew R. Swinko, Ryan Palmieri, and Dominic Murphy. The investigation, which began in October 2025, was led by the Homeland Security Task Force and involved the sale of drugs in the Elmira area using cellular phones and multiple storage locations.
The drug trafficking organization, known as the Barner Drug Trafficking Organization (DTO), was found to have utilized several locations to store and sell narcotics, including a former store front on Lake Street and residences on Baldwin Avenue, Mulberry Street, Lackawanna Avenue, W. Thurston Street, and Harper Street. During the execution of multiple search warrants, investigators seized a large quantity of drugs and cash, including $152,080.57 in cash, approximately 69 grams of cocaine, approximately 646 grams of fentanyl, and approximately 3,306 grams of methamphetamine.
The defendants face serious charges, including conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, 40 grams or more of fentanyl, and a quantity of cocaine. The charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison, a maximum penalty of life, and $10,000,000. Dominic Murphy also faces additional charges for being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition and possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The investigation and subsequent charges are a significant step forward in the fight against drug trafficking in the region. The Homeland Security Task Force, in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies, has demonstrated its commitment to dismantling large-scale drug trafficking organizations and bringing those responsible to justice.
