Nathan R. Tauck, Enticing a Minor, IL 2024

Rockford, Illinois — A 25-year-old man faces federal prison after being indicted on multiple child pornography charges stemming from an online investigation. Nathan R. Tauck was charged Thursday with one count of enticing and coercing a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct, specifically producing visual depictions that show the victim’s genitals and pubic area, along with four counts of transporting child pornography via the internet.

The indictment, returned by a federal grand jury, marks the latest escalation in a growing crackdown on digital exploitation of minors in northern Illinois. Authorities say the evidence points to deliberate, predatory behavior online, targeting vulnerable children and exploiting them for illicit visual material. Tauck, a resident of Rockford, is currently in federal custody awaiting trial.

Zachary T. Fardon, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and James M. Gibbons, Special Agent in Charge of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Chicago, jointly announced the charges. The investigation utilized digital forensics and online surveillance to trace the transmission of illegal material back to Tauck’s devices and online accounts.

Each count of transporting child pornography carries a mandatory minimum of five years in prison and a maximum of 20 years, plus a $250,000 fine. The more serious charge — enticing a minor for sexually explicit conduct — brings a mandatory minimum of 15 years and up to 30 years behind bars, as well as a $250,000 maximum fine. If convicted, the court must impose a sentence deemed reasonable under federal law and the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael D. Love is prosecuting the case on behalf of the federal government. Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the minor victim or specific online platforms used in the alleged crimes, citing ongoing investigative protocols and victim protection policies.

The public is reminded that an indictment is not evidence of guilt. Nathan R. Tauck is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law, where the government bears the burden of proving each charge beyond a reasonable doubt. A trial date has not yet been scheduled.
