National Night Out, Crime Prevention, Michigan 2023

Crime continues to plague communities nationwide, but there’s hope. In a bold effort to combat the issue, Acting U.S. Attorney Saima Mohsin has pledged to join forces with law enforcement and residents in Detroit for the National Night Out crime and drug prevention events.

On Tuesday, August 3rd, Mohsin will be present at several locations throughout the city, including Detroit Police precincts. The event aims to promote collaborative law enforcement-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.

"Keeping our communities safe is a top Justice priority, as it is for state, local and Tribal police departments across the country," said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. "Law enforcement is most effective when it has the trust and support of the communities it serves."

Mohsin echoed Garland’s sentiments, stating, "National Night Out is a time for law enforcement, community leaders and residents to join together in the fight against crime in our communities. These types of events help to strengthen our resolve to root out crime and build stronger and safer communities."

DPD Chief White emphasized the importance of National Night Out, saying, "National Night Out provides another opportunity to connect with our community and to build relationships based on trust and respect. It also illustrates our commitment to reduce crime and improve the quality of life for our residents through community policing."

The National Night Out campaign has been a success nationwide, with thousands of communities participating in neighborhood block parties, festivals, cookouts, safety demonstrations, seminars, and activities that heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.

By joining forces with residents and law enforcement, Mohsin hopes to make a positive impact on the city. As she stated, "I’m proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our stakeholders to support safer streets."

Michigan residents can look forward to a safer and more united community, thanks to the efforts of Acting U.S. Attorney Saima Mohsin and the National Night Out initiative.
