A Elyria woman is facing federal charges for allegedly re-entering the United States following her deportation.
Natividad Mundo, age 51, was indicted for illegally re-entering the country after being removed and deported from the United States on April 17, 2012, following convictions for aggravated trafficking in cocaine and conspiracy to commit aggravated trafficking in cocaine. The indictment alleges that Mundo was found in Lorain County.
According to the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, Steven M. Dettelbach, the case is being presented by Assistant United States Attorney Gregory C. Sassé after an investigation by the United States Border Patrol.
If convicted, Mundo’s sentence will be determined by the Court after review of factors unique to the case, including her prior criminal record, her role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violation. In all cases, the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and in most cases, it will be less than the maximum.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Mundo, a resident of Elyria, Ohio, is currently facing federal charges for allegedly re-entering the United States following her deportation in 2012. The case is ongoing, and Mundo’s fate will be determined by the Court in the coming months.
