Rashaan McMillan, a 31-year-old Navajo man, is accused of burning down a dwelling in New Mexico on May 13, 2026. The fire destroyed the home of John Doe and Jane Doe. McMillan, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, allegedly set the fire intentionally. The motive behind the arson is not yet clear.
The FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office, along with the Navajo Nation Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations, investigated the case. McMillan is now facing federal charges for arson of a dwelling.
If convicted, McMillan could face up to life in prison. He will remain in federal custody pending trial, which has not yet been scheduled. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eliot Neal is prosecuting the case.
The announcement was made by First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office.
