Navor Salas Cruz, 52, of Mexico, Sentenced to 54 Months for Illegal Reentry
Honolulu, HI – In a stark warning to those who seek to exploit our borders, a Mexican national, Navor Salas Cruz, was sentenced to 54 months of imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release for his ninth and latest violation of U.S. immigration laws.
According to court documents, Salas Cruz came to the attention of law enforcement after a 2024 arrest for operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant on the island of Kauai. A thorough review of his background revealed a staggering 10 removals from the United States to Mexico between 1997 and 2020. Notably, Salas Cruz has prior convictions for abuse of a household member, assault, violation of a protective order, and being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition.
At sentencing, U.S. District Judge Derrick K. Watson delivered a scathing rebuke to Salas Cruz, stating that his criminal history demonstrates a blatant disregard for U.S. laws. “It is clear you do not respect our laws,” Judge Watson said. “You have learned precious little over the last 25 years, and your prior crimes have put the public at risk.”
Acting U.S. Attorney Ken Sorenson emphasized, “This prosecution and lengthy sentence deliver the clear message that when you come to Hawaii as an illegal alien and repeatedly violate our nation’s laws, you will be federally prosecuted and sentenced to a long period of imprisonment. We will not tolerate those who exploit our borders and endanger our citizens.”
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Darren W.K. Ching prosecuted the case, which is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the U.S. government to combat illegal immigration, cartels, and violent crime.
Salas Cruz’s repeated offenses and egregious disregard for U.S. laws serve as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who seek to exploit our borders. As our nation continues to grapple with the complex issue of immigration, this case highlights the importance of holding accountable those who put public safety at risk.
This case is a prime example of the U.S. government’s commitment to protecting its citizens from the scourge of violent crime and ensuring that justice is served.
