Nebraska Man Gets 15 Years for Meth Trafficking

Omaha, NE – A Nebraska man has been sent to the slammer for 15 years after getting caught with a massive haul of methamphetamine in Iowa.

Calvin Wright, 33, of Creighton, Nebraska, was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, according to a statement from the US Department of Justice, USAO IA.

Wright’s troubles began on July 5, 2023, when he was stopped in a vehicle in Sioux City, Iowa. A K-9 unit indicated the presence of a controlled substance, and a search of the vehicle turned up 95 grams of pure methamphetamine, scales, and drug paraphernalia.

This wasn’t Wright’s first brush with the law. He was previously convicted of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine in 2016 in Nebraska.

At his sentencing hearing, Wright was represented by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick T. Greenwood. He was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand, who also imposed a 10-year term of supervised release following Wright’s imprisonment.

The case was investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force, a coalition of law enforcement agencies from across Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota.

The Tri-State Drug Task Force includes personnel from the Drug Enforcement Administration, Sioux City Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office, South Sioux City Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Iowa National Guard, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, United States Marshals Service, and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.

Wright is currently in the custody of the United States Marshal and will be transported to a federal prison to begin serving his sentence.
