Murder Rocks Okmulgee County Community
MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – In a shocking turn of events, 28-year-old Neil Shai Cameron Lewis was sentenced to 223 months in prison for a brutal murder that shook the Okmulgee County community to its core.
The incident, which took place at a residence in Okmulgee County, left one victim dead and another facing life behind bars. According to reports, Lewis beat the victim to death with a television and a coat rack after an evening of drinking at the victim’s apartment.
The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Lighthorse Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation launched an investigation into the matter, which ultimately led to Lewis’s arrest and subsequent guilty plea to Murder in Indian Country—Second Degree on September 30, 2021.
During the sentencing hearing, the Honorable Ronald A. White, U.S. District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the proceedings, where Lewis was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his sentence of incarceration.
The case highlights the importance of interagency cooperation and the commitment of law enforcement agencies to bringing justice to victims and their families. The community is still reeling from the aftermath of the tragic event, and many are breathing a sigh of relief now that justice has been served.
