Nelly Davila, 39, Charged with Importing 7 Kilograms of Suspected Heroin

Alexandria, Va. – On March 9, 2024, Nelly Davila, a 39-year-old woman from Mexico, was arrested at Washington Dulles International Airport after attempting to re-enter the United States with over 7 kilograms of a substance that field-tested positive for heroin.

According to court documents, Customs and Border Protection agents found the contraband concealed in Davila’s suitcase as she attempted to pass through customs.

Davila, a U.S. citizen who resides in Mexico, is charged with importing a schedule I controlled substance. If convicted, she faces a maximum penalty of 40 years and a mandatory minimum of five years in prison.

A preliminary hearing and detention hearing are scheduled for today at 2 p.m. at the federal courthouse in Alexandria.

The investigation was a joint effort between Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, and the Eastern District of Virginia’s U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Nelly Davila is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
