A Newport man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in a cocaine trafficking conspiracy and obstruction of justice.
Marcus Davis, 37, sold heroin from the garage of Marvin O’Neal Carter, the former leader of a large-scale cocaine trafficking conspiracy, and helped conceal the delivery of 54 kilograms of cocaine on October 20, 2016.
Davis also obstructed the federal drug investigation by writing a letter to an uncharged member of the conspiracy after he met with federal agents in May, 2017.
Carter, 50, was previously sentenced to 27 years in prison on November 2, 2017. Davis’s sentence is in addition to the sentences of four other members of the conspiracy, including Michael Stephen Kuna, Hilario Rodriguez, and Daniel Rodriguez.
The investigation and prosecution of the conspiracy were led by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Washington Field Division, the FBI’s Norfolk Field Office, and the Newport News Police Department.
According to court documents, agents observed the arrival of a tractor-trailer at a garage leased by Carter and witnessed the unloading of cocaine from a hidden compartment. They also recovered approximately $1 million in cash, 54 kilograms of cocaine, and a firearm.
