A lawsuit has been filed against four individuals and their four companies for defrauding consumers out of their hard-earned money. Michael Bloom, Robert DeHarder, Corrine Klose, and Adriana W. DeHarder are the defendants in the case, which was announced by Attorney General Josh Shapiro.
The defendants worked collectively to scam homeowners in Pennsylvania, advertising their home improvement services under the names “We Do Metal Roofs” and “Spade Crete”. They claimed that a down payment was never required to begin services and offered warranties on their work. However, consumers paid large deposits for roof repairs or concrete installation, and the defendants kept the money without starting the work.
In some cases, the defendants performed partial and shoddy work, abandoning the projects after receiving full payment from consumers. When the consumers’ roofs began to leak or the concrete began to crack, the defendants failed to honor the warranties they had issued. The Office of the Attorney General received more than 60 consumer complaints against the defendants’ business practices, with some complaints filed by or on behalf of older Pennsylvanians.
One senior citizen from Schuylkill County paid $18,000 as a down payment for a metal roof installation, but the defendants kept the money and refused to refund it. Another senior citizen from Monroe County paid $20,000 as a down payment, but the defendants failed to provide the service and refused to refund the money.
Attorney General Shapiro stated, “Rather than staying on top of their promises to consumers, the owners of these roofing businesses repeatedly scammed Pennsylvania senior citizens out of their hard-earned savings. Any business targeting older folks with fake services will be sued. My Office remains committed to shutting down fraudsters and protecting Pennsylvanians.”
The lawsuit is a result of the ongoing efforts of the Office of the Attorney General to protect consumers from fraudulent business practices. The defendants’ actions have caused significant financial harm to many homeowners, and the lawsuit seeks to hold them accountable for their actions.
The case highlights the importance of consumers doing their research and being cautious when hiring contractors for home improvement services. It also serves as a reminder that the Office of the Attorney General is committed to protecting consumers and will take action against businesses that engage in fraudulent practices.
