Methamphetamine Trafficking Ring Busted in Alaska

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – In a major blow to the state’s narcotics trade, three men have been sentenced to federal prison for their roles in a methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy in Ketchikan, Alaska.

According to a federal investigation, Neptali Yadao Dadia, 41, of Ketchikan, coordinated and directed the distribution of methamphetamine, as well as the collection of drug proceeds from co-conspirators in Ketchikan. Dadia’s scheme involved purchasing and shipping methamphetamine from Nevada to Alaska, where he would distribute the drugs to his co-conspirators.

The investigation, led by the Alaska State Troopers and the Drug Enforcement Administration, revealed that Dadia’s co-conspirators, Matthew Steven Speers, 28, of Ketchikan, and Jaypee Tolsa Lorenzo, 33, of Ketchikan, worked together to receive and distribute the methamphetamine in Ketchikan.

On August 18, 2017, a suspicious package was identified at the Ketchikan Post Office, containing 53.92 grams of methamphetamine. The package was addressed to Speers and originated from ‘Ivy Si’ in Las Vegas, Nevada. A search warrant was obtained and executed, and further investigation revealed that Dadia had arranged for the purchase and shipment of two ounces of methamphetamine to Nevada and then to Speers in Alaska.

Dadia’s scheme was uncovered after a two-ounce shipment of methamphetamine was discovered in July 2017, using the same methods and co-conspirators. Dadia was sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by eight years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to methamphetamine conspiracy.

Speers, 28, was sentenced to five years in prison, followed by four years of supervised release, while Lorenzo, 33, received 15 months in prison, followed by four years of supervised release. The investigation and prosecution of this case were led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jack S. Schmidt.
