Rico Paris Gillespie, 31, Sentenced to 87 Months for Distribution of Methamphetamine
ANCHORAGE, AK – Rico Paris Gillespie, a/k/a ‘Rico G The Mayor,’ was sentenced to 87 months in prison, followed by four years of supervised release, for his conviction of distribution of methamphetamine.
Gillespie, a local hip-hop performer, was found to have sold methamphetamine on three separate occasions in April and May of 2017. In May 2017, law enforcement officers searched Gillespie’s house and vehicle, where they discovered methamphetamine, heroin, and fentanyl packaged for sale, as well as three digital scales.
Additionally, a loaded Taurus 9mm firearm was found in a vehicle Gillespie was seen driving prior to the search of the house. Gillespie’s vehicle and home were searched after he was seen selling methamphetamine to undercover officers.
Gillespie’s lyrics and videos online depicted a glamorous lifestyle funded by drug trafficking and other illegal activities. Judge Sharon L. Gleason, who imposed the sentence, was troubled by Gillespie’s actions, particularly that he dealt drugs out of the same home that he shared with young children.
The investigation leading to the successful prosecution of this case was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Alaska State Troopers (AST), and the Anchorage Police Department (APD). Assistant U.S. Attorney Kelly Cavanaugh prosecuted the case.
Gillespie’s last verified employment was in 2014, and Judge Gleason expressed concern that he was a ‘for profit’ drug trafficker who did not appear to have an addiction to the drugs he was selling in the community.
