A brutal assault on Choctaw tribal lands has sent two Neshoba County residents to prison. Robert Lee Jim and Jackie Devon Stokes, Jr., both Choctaw Indians and Neshoba County residents, were sentenced on January 23, 2017, for assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
The heinous crime took place on April 6, 2011, at a residence in Neshoba County on lands within the confines of the Choctaw Indian Reservation. The victim, who has not been named, was brutally attacked and assaulted by both defendants.
The victim was treated at the University of Mississippi Medical Center for their injuries. The extent of those injuries has not been disclosed.
Jim, 32, was sentenced to 96 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $1,500 fine. Stokes, 33, received a similar sentence, 84 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, along with the $1,500 fine.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Choctaw Tribal Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothin, Jr.
The assault was a shocking display of violence on the Choctaw Indian Reservation. The sentencing of both defendants brings some measure of justice to the victim and the community.
