A New Hampshire man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a large-scale fentanyl trafficking ring. According to court documents, 32-year-old Jose Pires of Nashua, New Hampshire, was involved in the distribution of hundreds of kilograms of fentanyl in the region.
Pires was arrested in 2021 and charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl. He pleaded guilty to the charge in 2022 and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Landya McCaffery on March 15, 2023.
According to the government’s sentencing memorandum, Pires was a key player in the fentanyl trafficking ring, which was responsible for distributing large quantities of the highly addictive opioid to users in New Hampshire and beyond.
The case against Pires was investigated by the New Hampshire State Police and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, with assistance from other law enforcement agencies. The investigation was led by the DEA’s New Hampshire Field Office.
Pires’ sentence is a significant blow to the fentanyl trafficking ring, which had been responsible for countless overdoses and deaths in the region. The case highlights the ongoing struggle against fentanyl trafficking in New Hampshire and the need for continued law enforcement efforts to combat this deadly threat.
