SCRANTON – A Luzerne County woman has been sentenced to 57 months in prison for her role in a cocaine trafficking operation.
Gina Paglianite, 48, of Luzerne County, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani for selling cocaine, crack cocaine, and heroin in the area between 2011 and July 9, 2013, and for distributing heroin in Scranton on November 21, 2014.
The charges against Paglianite include conspiracy to distribute cocaine and cocaine base (crack) in Luzerne County and distributing heroin in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
This case was part of a district-wide initiative to combat the nationwide epidemic regarding the use and distribution of heroin. The initiative targets heroin traffickers operating in the Middle District of Pennsylvania and is part of a coordinated effort among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
Paglianite pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 57 months in prison, followed by a three-year term of supervised release.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Gurganus.
Paglianite’s sentence highlights the ongoing efforts to combat the opioid epidemic and the consequences of those involved in the distribution of illicit substances.
