New Haven Heroin Dealer Catches 20-Year Rap

A 63-year-old New Haven man has pleaded guilty to dealing heroin, and is facing up to 20 years in prison.

Curtis Draughn, also known as ‘Kirk,’ pleaded guilty in New Haven federal court to one count of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin.

The charge stems from an investigation into the December 2016 overdose death of a 33-year-old New Haven man, who had called Draughn before his overdose. Investigators made three controlled purchases of heroin from Draughn in May, June, and August 2017.

Draughn was arrested on October 25, 2017, and a federal grand jury later returned an indictment charging him with the three heroin sales.

The case has been investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Haven Task Force and the New Haven Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter S. Jongbloed and Law Student Intern John Super are prosecuting the case.

Draughn is released on a $100,000 bond pending sentencing, which is set for February 14, 2019, before U.S. District Judge Vanessa L. Bryant in Hartford.
