New Mexico’s Opioid Crisis Spreads Pain
ALBUQUERQUE – In a desperate bid to combat the growing opioid epidemic, U.S. Attorney Damon P. Martinez has announced a new collaborative effort, the New Mexico Heroin and Opioid Prevention and Education (HOPE) Initiative.
The HOPE Initiative will partner with Bernalillo County’s Opioid Abuse Accountability Initiative to address the devastating impact of heroin and opioid abuse on New Mexico’s communities.
According to sources, the partnership will bring together key stakeholders from law enforcement, healthcare, and education to develop and implement effective strategies to prevent and treat opioid addiction.
The announcement will be made during Bernalillo County’s Second Opioid Abuse Accountability Summit on Thursday, January 8, 2015, at the CNM Workforce Training Center in Albuquerque.
The summit, scheduled to run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., will feature key speakers, including U.S. Attorney Martinez, Chancellor Paul B. Roth, M.D., M.S., of the UNM Health Sciences Center, and Bernalillo County Commissioner Maggie Hart Stebbins.
