A Texas woman was sentenced to time served for her role in a brazen fentanyl trafficking operation that flooded southern New Mexico with the deadly synthetic opioid. Mayra Mendivil, 37, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and three counts of possession with intent to distribute, all connected to her work with a drug trafficking organization that operated between Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, and southern New Mexico.
Between January 24, 2024, and February 7, 2025, Mendivil coordinated and completed multiple controlled sales of fentanyl to an undercover agent, including a massive sale of 328 grams for $3,000 on January 24, 2024. She was caught with 280 grams of fentanyl on February 7, 2025.
Mendivil’s sentencing caps a federal investigation led by the Las Cruces Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office, with assistance from the Las Cruces/Dona Ana County Metro Narcotics Agency. Assistant U.S. Attorney Devon Aragon Martinez prosecuted the case.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Special Agent in Charge Justin A. Garris announced the sentence, which includes two years of supervised release upon her release from prison. But for Mendivil, that’s a hollow victory – there’s no parole in the federal system.
