A New Orleans man has pleaded guilty to drug and firearm charges after a lengthy investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Thomas Brown, 45, of New Orleans, has pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute acetyl fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine, as well as a second count of possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking.
According to court records, in June 2015, DEA agents were conducting an undercover operation to purchase heroin from a targeted trafficker when they observed Brown arrive on the scene and supply heroin to the trafficker.
Following further investigation, agents obtained and executed a search warrant at Brown’s residence, where they found 188 grams of acetyl fentanyl, 66 grams of heroin, 150 grams of cocaine hydrochloride, and 17.9 grams of marijuana.
The majority of the narcotics seized were found concealed in a void between a furnace and a wall in a hallway closet, and had been packaged for sale. Agents also located a loaded .45 caliber pistol, a .38 caliber revolver, and a loaded 20-guage shotgun near the narcotics.
Brown is scheduled to be sentenced on June 15, 2016, and faces a possible sentence of up to 20 years for the narcotics charge and a minimum of 5 years and up to life for the firearms charge.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite praised the work of the New Orleans Field Division of the DEA in investigating this matter, and thanked Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael B. Redmann for his efforts in prosecuting the case.
