12 Years Behind Bars for New Port Richey Man
A New Port Richey man has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for possessing and attempting to produce child pornography, the Grimy Times has learned.
Brian Scott Ellis (50, New Port Richey) pleaded guilty on February 28, 2018, to the charges. According to court documents, Ellis had amassed a collection of thousands of child pornography images and videos, which he distributed as part of internet “send-to-get” groups.
Ellis also attempted to film explicit videos of an unrelated child, further highlighting the severity of his crimes. This case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Frank Murray.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
Ellis’s crimes are a stark reminder of the dangers posed by child predators and the importance of continued efforts to combat child exploitation. As part of Project Safe Childhood, the U.S. Attorney’s Office remains committed to holding those who commit these heinous crimes accountable.
U.S. District Judge James S. Moody, Jr. handed down the 12-year sentence, recognizing the severity of Ellis’s crimes. The sentence sends a clear message that child pornography and exploitation will not be tolerated in our communities.
