Newark’s Bradley Pierre was handed a decade-long prison sentence for orchestrating one of the largest no-fault insurance frauds in New York history, totaling $60 million. The United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, announced the sentencing by U.S. District Judge Paul G. Gardephe.
Pierre was found guilty of conspiracy to commit bribery and conspiracy to defraud the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in a plea agreement entered on December 18, 2023. Williams called Pierre’s actions a “blatant disregard for justice,” noting that he exploited the No-Fault automobile insurance system to the tune of over $20 million.
According to court documents, Pierre controlled medical clinics such as Veda Medical and Sun Medical, falsely representing them as owned by licensed doctors. He directed these clinics to bill insurance companies for unnecessary services, steering profits into his personal accounts and kickbacks to pharmacies. Additionally, Pierre manipulated patients through his wife’s law firm, which filed lawsuits against insurance companies on behalf of clients steered from his MRI facility.
The scheme involved falsified injury reports, leading to millions more in fraudulent billings. The Law Firm of Nonna Shikh reaped millions from the scheme, with over $4 million transferred to Pierre through a “marketing” arrangement.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Gardephe emphasized the severity of the fraud and the impact on innocent victims who were denied rightful care. The investigative team and career prosecutors involved in the case are credited for their relentless pursuit of justice in this complex case.
