FORT WORTH, Texas – In a shocking display of brazen thievery, two Fort Worth men, Nicholas Evans and Darrien Jefferson, were sentenced to federal prison for their roles in breaking into pharmacies and stealing controlled substances.
According to court documents, Evans, 25, and Jefferson, 36, pleaded guilty in August 2017 to one count of conspiracy to commit interference with commerce by robbery and one count of using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to, and possessing and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of, a crime of violence.
The heist, which took place on April 9, 2016, targeted the Walgreens Pharmacy located at 833 South Wilshire Blvd., Burleson, Texas. The group, which included Kenneth Sauls and Dion Clark, stole narcotics, cash, cigarettes, and approximately 150 booklets of stamps.
Evans was sentenced to serve a total of 121 months in federal prison, while Jefferson received a total of 168 months in federal prison. Kenneth Sauls, 23, also pleaded guilty to his role in the robbery and is scheduled to be sentenced on January 16, 2018. Dion Clark, 36, was charged in a separate indictment and pleaded guilty to his role in the robbery. Clark is scheduled to be sentenced before U.S. District Judge John McBryde on February 14, 2018.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan Fahey prosecuted the case, ensuring that those responsible for these crimes would face justice.
The sentencing of Evans and Jefferson serves as a reminder that the justice system takes these types of crimes very seriously. The brazen nature of the robbery and the use of firearms make this case particularly egregious.
