A notorious methamphetamine dealer has been sentenced to over a decade in federal prison after a lengthy investigation by local and federal authorities.
Jonathan Roy Wright, a 43-year-old resident of Marion, Iowa, received the harsh sentence on August 30, 2022 after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance on April 14, 2022.
According to information disclosed at sentencing, Wright distributed at least 1,800 grams of ice methamphetamine between October 2020 and October 2021.
Wright’s lengthy criminal history also played a significant role in his sentencing. He has been convicted of several assault-related offenses and eleven prior drug-related offenses.
Wright’s sentence was handed down by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand in Cedar Rapids. He was sentenced to 136 months’ imprisonment, followed by a five-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
Wright is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison to begin serving his sentence.
The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Devra Hake and Assistant United States Attorney Dillan Edwards. It was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force, consisting of the DEA; the Linn County Sheriff’s Office; the Cedar Rapids Police Department; the Marion Police Department; and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
