Dustin Michael Adkins Behind Bars for Methamphetamine Trafficking
Council Bluffs, IA – In a major blow to the illicit drug trade in Iowa, 39-year-old Dustin Michael Adkins has been sentenced to 132 months in prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.
According to court documents, Adkins was stopped by law enforcement on September 17, 2021 for a traffic violation in Council Bluffs. Initially, he attempted to evade the officers, and what followed was a desperate attempt to dispose of evidence. A bag containing 90.43 grams of methamphetamine was thrown from the vehicle, but it was quickly recovered by the authorities.
Following his arrest, Adkins was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine. The case was investigated by the Council Bliffs Police, Pottawattamie County Sheriff, and Southwest Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa led the prosecution.
United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal made the announcement, stating that Adkins’s actions were a threat to the community. Adkins’s sentence includes a five-year term of supervised release after serving his prison term.
It’s worth noting that in the federal system, there is no parole option. Adkins will have to serve out his full sentence without the possibility of early release.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the illicit drug trade in Iowa. The sentence handed down to Adkins serves as a warning to those involved in similar activities.
