Nicholas Franke, a St. Louis Attorney, Sentenced for Tax Evasion

A 58-year-old St. Louis man has been sentenced to two years in prison for tax evasion, a crime that cost him over $300,000 in unpaid taxes.

Nicholas Franke, an attorney, operated a solo law practice that generated significant business revenue. He paid himself from those proceeds, but failed to file tax returns for the years 2013-2015, stating zero taxes were due or owed on his income tax extension requests.

According to court documents, Franke knowingly filed false statements and failed to pay more than $300,000 in taxes owed.

Franke pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion in May 2021 and was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Henry E. Autrey on Wednesday, August 12, 2021.

As a result of his actions, Franke will serve a 24-month term of imprisonment followed by a 2-year term of supervised release.

‘Franke was a licensed attorney who knew his duty to file an accurate income tax return and pay his fair share of taxes,’ said Tyler Hatcher, Special Agent in Charge of IRS-Criminal Investigation’s St. Louis Field Office. ‘He knowingly violated the law and admitted to his conduct through his guilty plea.’
