A Port Charlotte man has found himself in a world of trouble after a federal jury convicted him of plotting to distribute large quantities of marijuana.
Nicholas Jakimer, 55, was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute 100 kilograms or more of marijuana. This serious crime carries a mandatory minimum term of 5 years, up to 40 years in federal prison.
Jakimer’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 27, 2016. He was indicted on April 15, 2015.
According to testimony and evidence presented at trial, Jakimer conspired with others to bring marijuana from Arizona to Southwest Florida for distribution. Jakimer funded the operation and recruited customers, who bought the marijuana on a wholesale basis.
This case was investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol and the Drug Enforcement Administration. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert P. Barclift.
The charges against Jakimer stem from a complex scheme to traffic large quantities of marijuana. It is a serious crime that can have severe consequences, including lengthy prison sentences.
Jakimer now faces the possibility of spending up to 40 years behind bars. His sentencing hearing will take place in July 2016, where a judge will determine his final sentence.
