A Quincy man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and five years of supervised release for possession of child pornography.
The defendant, Nicholas Oslander, 68, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge William G. Young in federal court in Boston.
Oslander pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography in July 2017. This is not his first offense, as he previously pleaded guilty in 2000 to possession of child pornography and was sentenced to 30 months in prison.
A federal search warrant was executed at Oslander’s home in Quincy on December 30, 2016 as part of an investigation into the online trade of child pornography through peer to peer networks.
Forensic analysis of digital devices seized during the search revealed hundreds of images of child pornography.
The case is brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploitation and abuse. The initiative was created by the government in 2006 and marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as identify and rescue victims.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Anne Paruti prosecuting the case.
Acting U.S. Attorney William D. Weinreb and FBI Special Agent in Charge Harold H. Shaw announced the sentence today.
