NEWARK, N.J. – In a blow to the streets of New Jersey, nine defendants have been charged for their roles in a massive drug trafficking operation that peddled fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine in Union County and beyond.
The defendants, who are all members or associates of the notorious Sex, Money, Murder street gang, were charged by complaint with one count of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine last week. The charges are the result of a months-long investigation led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey, in conjunction with the Homeland Security Investigations Newark, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Plainfield Police Department.
The operation, which was centered in Plainfield, New Jersey, is believed to have distributed large quantities of illicit narcotics to customers throughout the region. According to court documents, the defendants used various methods to evade law enforcement, including conducting transactions in open-air markets and using coded language to communicate with each other.
The defendants charged in the case include Jerry Ross, 46, of Somerset, New Jersey; Joseph Ross, 42, of Rahway, New Jersey; Luis Delvalle, 41, Pernell White, 36, and Jaquay Bell, 35, all of Piscataway, New Jersey; Andre Gaddy, 31, of North Plainfield, New Jersey; Jacob Douglas, 42, Tarrell Strond, 42, and Tayeire Thomas, 26, all of Plainfield, New Jersey.
Of the nine defendants, six are scheduled to appear in court today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy L. Waldor in Newark federal court. However, Douglas, White, and Thomas remain at large and are considered fugitives.
The investigation into the operation was a collaborative effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Perth Amboy Police Department, and the New Jersey State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jason Goldberg and Rachelle M. Navarro of the Organized Crime and Gangs Unit in Newark are representing the government in the case.
The charges against the defendants are mere accusations, and they are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. However, the indictment is a significant blow to the Sex, Money, Murder street gang and its operations in New Jersey.
